Artists to check for...
James Brandon Lewis Trio - James Brandon Lewis is one of the modern titans of the tenor. He’s received accolades from mainstream cultural tastemakers such as Ebony Magazine who hailed him as one of “7 Young Players to Watch,” and earned the respect of a diverse cross section of esteemed artists. James has shared stages with such icons as Benny Golson, Geri Allen, Wallace Roney, Grammy® Award-winning singer Dorinda Clark Cole, and the late “Queen of Gospel Music,” Albertina Walker. Combining elements of down home jazz, early ’90s hip-hop and imaginative riffs, their new track “Y’all Slept” serves as an alarm clock notice to those who continue to snooze on this trio who has garnered great reviews from places like The New York Times.
Kenya - Kenya is a richly inspired vocalist/songwriter whose jazz-kissed soul style is wooing admirers simultaneously in the U.S. and U.K. Ironically, her lyrically captivating compositions almost never made it to the ears of the public. Kenya’s life roles as wife and mother of two sons plus working for over a decade as a clinician and educator nearly eclipsed her vision of herself as a viable artist bearing valuable musical gifts. Now—thanks to her reinvigorated relationship with God, the support of her family and counselors that cosmically expanded her viewpoint on life purpose—Kenya shares her first full-length CD, My Own Skin on her label, KenyaMJ Music. Time invested finding herself has resulted in songs informed with wisdom first gleaned for self that will be balms of insight and comfort for others. This Fall, Expansion Records will be releasing Skin Deep: The Collection, a cool compilationof remixes and reworks of selected songs from My Own Skin, with a host of the world's top remix/deep soulful house/acid jazz producers on board, including Sean McCabe, Mark de Clive Lowe, Tom Glide, Opolopo, Khari Cabral Simmons, Daz I Kue and Julius Speed.
Nicholas Ryan Gant - Nicholas Ryan Gant is a New York based singer/song writer. He recieved a Bachelor of music from Howard University. He works as a sought after vocal coach in the New York area. He's also sung support vocals for likes of Mariah Carey, Ledisi, Run the Jewels, Sy Smith, Miri Ben-Ari & Michael McDonald. His latest project "Maze EP" is a collaboration with producer Kriswontwo from Copenhagen, Denmark.
St. Paul & The Broken Bones - St. Paul and The Broken Bones is a six-piece soul band based out of Birmingham, Alabama, United States, which formed in 2012. The band is composed of Paul Janeway (vocals), Browan Lollar (guitar), Jesse Phillips (bass), Andrew Lee (drums), Al Gamble (keys), and Allen Branstetter (trumpet). The band tours with both trombone and baritone saxophone as well. They have released one album and two EPs while touring internationally. Their second full album "Sea of Noise" was just released in September 2016.
